Are there any medications to get rid of wrinkles?
Yes, in the last decade agents derived from vitamin A have
been found to be excellent for treating a variety of skin disorders including
fine lines and wrinkles. However, one needs to be realistic. These drugs do not
cure wrinkles and do not work for the deep furrows and crevices on your face.
They only erase the fine lines at best. The retinoids can also smoothen your
skin, improve texture and make the skin appear young. The retinoids have also been
found to be useful in treatment of acne
and small areas of skin pigmentation.
When you use these medications, you must
also take other measures to protect the skin. This includes wearing a sunscreen
and wearing protective garments when venturing outside the home. Side effects
of the retinoids include excessive peeling and dryness of skin. Some
individuals develop a burning sensation. These effects are transient and can
easily be treated with a water-based moisturizer. Examples of retinoids that
are available for wrinkles include Avage (tazorac) and Renova (retin A).
For all women who have been intrigued by the above, i should warn you that topical retinoids can cause serious harm to a fetus. You can't even get pregnant for 12 months after you stop taking the medication. Many doctors are reluctant to write scripts for retinoids for fear of litigation if something was to happen to the fetus.
