Nicotine patch to quit smoking

Can the nicotine patch help me stop smoking I am 33 and have been trying for many years but have failed so far?

The nicotine patch works by releasing a slow amount of nicotine into the body so that you do not get the cravings. A new patch is recommend every day and should be applied on an area where there is no hair, preferably the neck or upper arm.

The benefits of nicotine patch are that it can be bought over the counter and is easy to use. The manufacturer claims that you will not have cravings for 24 hours with a single patch and then you can gradually taper down on the patch.

As far as the negatives are concerned, there are several. Most people just cannot adjust to the low dose nicotine and still get intense cravings for nicotine. In more than 40% of people, the patch cause skin itching, rash and irritation. Moreover the patch has also been associated with difficulties in sleeping and nightmares. As far as cessation of smoking is concerned, the nicotine patch sucks. The patch cannot be used if you have lupus, psoriasis or any type of skin disorder. In addition, the patch has to be used for a minimum of 12 weeks and longer.

The majority of people who use the nicotine patch for smoking cessation only get disappointment. The patch is just another money making scheme by the tobacco industry. If you want to quit smoking, go cold turkey- it is still the best method. Stop wasting your hard earned money on scams like nicotine patches.
